Neighborhoods in New Haven
where I specialize in selling homes:

New Haven has over 40 Neighborhoods

East Rock

At Betsy Grauer Realty, I am located in East Rock The majority of my business is in the East Rock Neighborhood, both as listing agents and buyers agents since 2005. Of course I sell houses in all neighborhoods in New Haven, Hamden and the surrounding towns.

East Rock is bordered on the south at Trumbull Street and the Hamden town line on the north, State Street on the east side and Prospect Street on the west.

East Rock has a multi layered level of housing stock, from multi-million dollar homes to the 1,000 square foot single family homes. There is a large stock of multi family homes as well as condominiums and pre-war apartment buildings. More recently new, state of the art residential apartment complexes have been developed.

Orange Street runs through the heart of East Rock, starting in Downtown New Haven and ends north at the base of East Rock. You will always find people walking, jogging or riding their bikes up and down the street. Dogs and children are regularly spotted. The street is filled with markets, outside cafes and coffee shops. The Yale shuttle bus is always in route.

If you are walking on Everit Street, Livingston Street or in the Edgehill/Ronan Neighborhood you will see some of the oldest trees in the city and experience an almost suburban feeling of solitude. You can easily walk to College Woods or Edgerton Park, two wonderful New Haven public parks. You can also kayak or canoe on the Mill River or climb the summit of East Rock and get a view of Long Island on a clear day.

Wooster Square

Wooster Square is an easy walk east from Downtown New Haven. Wooster Square park is the focal point of the neighborhood, and is surrounded by historic homes and numerous condominiums. The park is known for its Yoshino Japanese Cherry Blossom trees and each spring there is the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

Court Street is a one block of 22 townhouses that were all built around 1870. They are all 20 feet wide and 30 feet deep, originally built as single family homes and resemble homes one can find in the West Village of New York. This block runs from Olive Street to Academy Street, on the east side of the park.

Wooster Street is a block away from the park and is known as Little Italy. Here you will find the finest Pizza in the world, we are told! One of only two CO-OPs in New Haven is located on Wooster Street and is a popular residential community. Saturday mornings is also famous for the Wooster Square Farmers Market located between Wooster Street and Wooster Square Park on the Chapel Street side.

Wooster Squares location is an easy walk to the Yale Campus, Yale Hospital, as well as the Metro North train station. The Elm City Market is also a short walk providing easy access to quality grocery shopping. For some people, Wooster Square is the only place they want to live.

Westville

Westville is another vibrant neighborhood with both single family and multi-family homes. Westville is on the National Register Historic District. There are many tree lined streets with homes built by early New Haven architects. Edgewood Park and West Rock are both located in Westville. There is a wonderful pond in the park on the Chapel Street side and tennis courts and basket ball court on the Whalley Avenue side. The Edgewood Park Farmers Mark is located on corner of West Rock Avenue and Whalley Avenue on Saturday mornings.

Westville has its own library, Mitchell Library and Post Office. Westville center has several wonderful resturants and cafes, a tennis shop, hair salons, a bank and car mechanics. Southern Connecticut State University is walking distance to the center. Easy access to the Wilbur Cross Parkway, Amity shopping center and downtown New Haven. There are a number of New Haven public schools located in Westville. Westville is also home to the Hopkins School, Yale Golf course, Yale Bowl and Yale tennis.
